Finding Industry Trends and Projections

Industry trends and projections can be found in the following databases:

When searching for industry trends and projections, keep in mind that different databases may refer to industries differently, so you may need to try several different names when searching for information about a given industry. For instance, you may be able to find information about trends/projections/forecasts for the washing machine industry by researching the home appliance industry, household appliance industry, consumer appliance industry, domestic appliance industry, major appliance industry, hard goods industry, durable goods industry, etc.

Also, since different databases will contain different industry information, it's a good idea to search in multiple databases when searching for information about a given industry.

You can also find industry trends on the free web and in Vault, a career-related resource available to UMGC students and alumni via CareerQuest.

Click on the links above to learn how to find industry trends and projections in each of the sources listed.

Finding Industry Trends on the Free Web

You can use a search engine such as Google or Bing, etc. to find industry trends by searching for the name of an industry and trends -- for example:

"fast-food restaurants" trends

"computer programming" trends

"home health care" trends

You can put quotation marks around an industry name that consists of two or more words. This tells a search engine to search for the words between the quotation marks as a phrase -- that is, appearing together, and in the order given.
